Rally Information & Report

We have 2 rally reports from this rally

Aren’t we the lucky ones, on the winning quiz table two nights running, we won wine, chocolates and an extra Easter egg. But best of all I got to write the rally report Malcolm and I have been to a couple of socials and the Christmas dinner (Which I must say was superb) but this was our first rally with Burton and thoroughly enjoyable.
We arrived on Thursday and although the field was pretty sound we have a front wheel drive car and got stuck. But Chairman Geoff was quickly on hand to tow us on so a big thank you to him. By Friday most vans had arrived the remainder joining us on Saturday everyone were out and about as the weather was better than the predicted forecast. We went in to Scarborough on Friday on the bus and had a stress free day by the sea. It showered on Friday night as our hosts welcomed us with tea and biscuits (as it does).
We had two great socials in the village hall across the road on Saturday and Sunday night. Quizzes were the order on each night and sorry to mention it again our table won. The faith supper on Sunday night was lovely and everyone enjoyed it. As members started leaving on Monday our rally marshal invited us to join them at the local pub but we declined as we knew the pub closed early on a Monday night. Perhaps we should have mentioned this to Andrew and Melvyn who were left Dry as the pub lights were just going out as they arrived. We left on Tuesday leaving the lucky one’s to enjoy extra nights.
The only thing that could of improved things was one of the nosey hens in the pot.
Thank you Yvonne, Andrew, Von and Dave for all your hard work in making it a great weekend, we enjoyed it very much and look forward to meeting all of you friendly people again.
Sue and Malcolm Lumb

Melvyn & Jean - from our point of view……………….

Thursday am – Andy rang us to report that he had spoken to Paula at the site and the field, though wet, drained well and the wind was drying the ground. We arrived early in the afternoon to find 4 ‘vans sited already. We levelled the ‘van and then had an adult debate on how the nissan hut porch awning was supposed to be erected (not used since last June). There was also a slight problem in that “I” (Jean) had forgotten to pack the small steel pegs which fit through the eyelets on the awning skirt (guess who also packs everything else?). After a Heath Robinson effort using origami and pieces of string, the job was done and time for a beer.
The weather was glorious (although Dave wouldn’t believe it) and there were lots more arrivals including our rally marshalls’ Andy and Yvonne after finishing work. Later Andy and Melvyn disappeared to the Middleton Arms to test Timothy Taylor’s bitter.
Good Friday – more arrivals – including our other set of rally marshalls’ Dave and Von, after despatching son and heir Dale to the Continent to play rugby and then swapping all their goods and chattels to their beautiful new caravan. Whew!….. exhausting! and a ‘welcome cuppa’ at Andy and Yvonnes’ in a ‘slight deluge’. We then all retired back to our own caravans to dry out
Saturday – more arrivals – Whew!….. exhausting!….
A few ralliers including ourselves went to Scarborough. We went on the bus clutching our shiny senior citizens passes (it saved us £14 in bus fares)
Saturday evening was spent in the Middleton and Aislaby Village Hall across the road from the site, where we were served hot cross buns, tea and coffee. It was an immaculately clean hall with a brand new kitchen and excellent facilities.
We were then tested to the limits by our rally marshalls’ fiendish quiz questions. Unfortunately our team won – you’ll find out why ‘unfortunately’ later.
Sunday Melvyn and I were up at the crack of dawn, leaving site at 8.00am to get the first steam train of the day through to Whitby – great weather again – we also went on a twin masted Dutch yacht called ‘Specksioneer’ for a trip around the bay. I understand that quite a few more people also visited Whitby.
Sorry we couldn’t join in the Easter Egg hunt, but I’m sure that Sue will include the proceedings in her version of the rally report ( yet again you will understand more in due
Back in the hall again Sunday evening for flag, an American supper and lots more fiendish quizes thanks to Andy and Dave. Must say everyone agreed it was the best American supper in a long time with lots of variety.
We now get to the ‘unfortunately bit’. Well – our team – Martin and Mandy, Sue and Malcolm, Von, Melvyn and me also won the quiz on Sunday as well as the Saturday one.. Sue and I (Jean) who had been doing all the writing won the right to write a rally report each! Thanks Andrew (notice how he got his Sunday name there)
As ralliers have to come and go at different times over Easter, some had to leave Monday, some Tuesday, some were moving down to the C.L. and some moving on.
We went to Helmsley on Tuesday, again on the bus and then helped Ivan with his porch awning on the way back on site. Where they were parked you needed a ladder to get in the caravan!
Wednesday we had to pack up say goodbye to the hens and then collect our coffee and walnut cake from Paula at the farm before going home, a grandsons’ 8th birthday to attend. Roll on the next trip, which for us with Burton & District will be Norfolk at Spring Bank.
We heartily thank our marshalls for all their hard work, we know to our cost what time and effort goes into it. We also thank all
our friends old and new for the brilliant Easter we spent.
Thanks
Melvyn and Jean Baldwin
