Southwell is a quiet town of only 7,000 inhabitants north-east of Nottingham. Its most remarkable feature is Southwell Minster, raised to cathedral status in the late 19th century, which is a magnificent example of medieval architecture.

Sherwood Forest Country Park
The waymarked Sherwood Forest Country Park is the last surviving part of the old Sherwood Forest, and contains some of the oldest and largest oak trees in Britain, including the famous Major Oak. A visit is recommended for children. The visitor centre has a Robin Hood exhibition which brings the Middle Ages to life
