Local Attractions

The town of North Walsham, just 9 miles from the coast and as many from the Norfolk Broads, has always been an important centre of population and trade in this corner of Norfolk. Established in Anglo-Saxon times it weathered invasions of Vikings and Normans to become an important centre of the weaving trade in the middle ages.

Rally Information & Report

It's been a long time since we have had a week long rally, and we hoped this was going to be a good one. Marshal's for the week were Andrew & Yvonne, assisted by Dave, Von, Dale & Katie, (Dales young lady).

The majority of vans arrived on Friday and Saturday so thanks must go to Jean & Melvyn along with Phil & Alison for siting people and generally opening up of the rally for us. Sixteen vans in total arrived for the week, some deciding later on to extend their holiday. It was great to see Neil, Alison and Stephen Rhodes joining us again after a spell away from the club, welcome back. (Scott away at Uni, hope to see him again very soon)

The weather started out cold, with rain showers, getting heavier during the first 2 to 3 days, along with the damp, very strong winds and the occasional hail storm thrown in for good measure. By Tuesday the weather was starting to calm down and brighten, from then on it was glorious sunshine throughout the week, getting better as time went on.

As the weather was so bad early part of the week we never managed to get together, however on Wednesday night we had got the "Whitehouse" erected and we had an evening of frog racing. Andrew and I had spent a couple of hours catching the blessed things, they were'nt half big ones. (At this juncture can I please point out that NO frogs were harmed in any way during this process) So the event started 6-30 ish and everyone had a go racing along with a little bet here and there, in the end after all the races the overall winner on the night was Phil Belt, he beat all the finalists by a good "frogs leg" so thank you to everyone for taking part.

On Thursday we woke yet again to beautiful blue skies, this was great as Andrew had negotiated a corking deal for 5 "Luxury cruisers" on the Broads. There were 38 of us in total taking to the waters of Wroxham where we ended up having a picnic, then on the way back calling at one of the local hostelries for things like....orange juice, lemonade, coco cola and the like, some people managed a brownish drink with a white head on it, whatever that could be, anyway after the refreshnments we had to get back to the shipyard.............sorry boat yard. We had been out for 6 hours and it had flown by for us all.

On Thursday evening it was flag and all our thank you's were given, then on Friday some people started to get ready to leave Saturday, so the "Whitehouse" had to come down along with one or two awnings.

Thanks must go to Andrew & Yvonne for a fantastic week's rally, also on my behalf thanks to Von, Dale & Katie, especially as she added great value to our outfit with her doing most of the quiz, winning in the end on a technicality.

We look forward to seeing you all out again very soon, thank you to everyone for supporting the Norfolk rally and also for getting involved.
